Acrylic Scrapbook

The above book was a joy to make. I used different techniques and lots of inking to distress the pages and some flowers. The paper and flowers are new from Prima. They caught my eye and I just had to incorporate them into a vintage style book. The colors are new from Prima and I added metal flowers and brads for extra accent and an eye catching effect. The brown and rose colored laces were included in the Prima package of papers. Just beautiful. The smaller first page is also from Prima. I had it left from a project I did for a contest. It seem to fit my idea for this album and so I made it the cover and first page of the album. Lots of old laces and trims were used all through the album.

BUTTERFLIES

I have finished my butterflies for the Children's Holocaust Museum in Texas. I really enjoyed this project as it was very heart felt. I tried to be whimsical and light-hearted in my presentation of the butterflies. I think I achieved it.

Take your time and look them over. I hope that some of you chose to be a part of this very worthwhile project.

BARNS

Of Upstate New York

This is my last installment of New York pictures. As you can see, I love old barns. There are 2 newly painted barns stuck in with these photos, but overall the older the better for me. The top photo was taken right after the little blue schoolhouse at an old farm that was completely overgrown. The barn was partly marsh. At least where I was standing. I tried to get a good picture through the tall grasses and some bull rushes. Really intrigued by this one. I think that is what help to start me off in the quest for quaint barns. I tried to find some that were completely rundown and maybe only partly standing.

The weathered barn wood is sometimes sold at a premium now days. As a matter of fact I painted pictures on barn wood years ago and sold them at consignment stores.

MARDI GRAS PAPER BAG ALBUM

For Scrappersaurus Scrapbooks

I made the above paper bag album for Scrappersaurus Scrapbooks in New Orleans, LA. Mardi Gras is coming up shortly and they wanted an album that would show their new product. The papers are beautifully colored, some hand made and others a gorgeous glossy. The embellishments are new for this year and they were so wonderful to work with.

The cover is all hand pieced and put together. Actually this was a lot of fun to create and develop. Begin with the mask, use colored feathers, adhere to the book cover and then go wild with the bling.

This book was a lot of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed making it. Try something new and happy scrappin'.

Task 5 for the LIME-LIGHT DESIGN TEAM

The Holocaust Museum in Houston is planning a major exhibition in Spring 2012, to commemorate the 1.5 million children who died during the Holocaust.And that's where you and I come in - the exhibition will take the form of a breathtaking display of 1.5 million butterflies, 1 for each child that died needlessly. The museum is asking for our help. They want crafters/scrapbookers/stampers like us to create the butterflies for them and send them to the museum. This is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of something that is so worthwhile and meaningful!There are no rules other than your butterflies can be no larger than 8" x 10" and must NOT have glitter on them. The examples I've shown here have been stamped, but you can use patterned papers and embellishments, paint and inks, whatever is your style.You can find more information about the project here:http://www.hmh.org/minisite/butterfly/index.htmlYou can draw your own butterfly shapes, or if you don't want to do that, I'm including 2 butterfly templates which you can cut if you wish. Unlike my usual templates, these will stay available here indefinitely. Feel free to pass the link on to others who might be interested in taking part. Please consider cutting out several and giving them out at your local crop or see if your child's teacher would be interested in doing it as a class activity in school (there are educational guidelines for a lesson based around the activity on the museum's web site).

SCHOOLHOUSES

The above photos were taken in the Finger Lake Region of upstate New York. With the exception of the top photo all the rest were taken of Amish Schoolhouses. They were taken in the summer when school was not in session. The Amish do not like to be photographed, so it is nice to respect that.

The top photo was of a field of wildflowers right across the street from the blue schoolhouse. The smell was so sweet and the breeze was just gently blowing making the flowers move in unison. This was a very peaceful and serene setting. The other schoolhouses intrigued me and I snapped a picture trying to show the whole area. Most of the schools were red with an outhouse, horse area and play area. You can almost imaging children playing, giggling and having fun.

WANETA LAKE

In the middle of the summer of August 2007. Can we just say 'beautiful'. The lake was so calm, the breeze was slight and the sweet aroma in the air of just being at the lake. It seems to have its own unique smells and sounds. Even when there are no boats or other water craft buzzing on the water, the calm and serene feeling will overcome you oh so fast. I would sit on the dock in a lawn recliner and just snooze or stare out across the water and thoroughly enjoy the moment.

Waneta Lake is one of the smaller Finger Lakes. Seneca Lake is the largest then Keuka, Cayuga, Waneta and Lamoka. There are vast fields of vineyards, fruit and produce. Many are sold around the lakes at fruit/vegetable stands. A very unique place.

I hope you enjoy the photos and my next installment will be of Amish schoolhouses.
