PAPER QUILTING

What on earth am I talking about? Well, I'll tell you. Paper quilting is a method I developed to help me choose paper for a project. I choose my base papers and build on them from there. I lay out the sheets of paper and match the colors and patterns just like you would if you were quilting fabric. Once you layout all of your picks, then you can add or change them accordingly. Below is the process I use.

1. Pick out your base paper that will be the theme throughout the pages of your book.

2. Add to the base pattern with simple stripes, dots or a very muted print of opposite colors. Reference the 2 photos above.

3. Then add plain paper colors to match your main paper colors and accentuate the smaller amounts of colors.

4. Just for fun, lots of times, I will add to my paper quilt by using a print or color you would often find at certain times of the year. For example, I will use some Christmas paper where the colors are not always associated with Christmas time. Pinks, maroon, aqua, etc. This will often add the spark and uniqueness to your paper quilt that is so needed. I find that mixing patterned papers, just because I like them, is the best way to build your quilt and usually will give you the pizazz you will love. I often pay no attention to the maker of the paper. In other words if I use a sheet that is Bo Bunny, I may add Heidi Grace or something else to it.

Your taste in paper and paper crafting is uniquely you. Build on your own likes and dislikes as you will. Be adventurous, brave and strike out into a new dimension. You can do it!

Have a great time and most of all, have fun.
